How to select the correct fitting type for your headboard

How to select the correct fitting type for your headboard

At Jules & Loom we can make a headboard to work with any type of bed, as long as it doesn't already have an integral headboard that can't be removed. There are 4 standard fitting options as outlined below, if you want something a little different please get in touch to discuss bespoke fittings.

Divan Struts

If you have a divan bed with fixing points for headboard struts then this is the recommended fitting. These are supplied with 4 bolts to attach the struts to the headboard, and two bolts with plastic washers to attach the struts to the bed.

If you have a standard bed then the shorter slots are attached to the headboard. If your bed is a little low then the longer slots are attached to the headboard.

These are made to fit standard Uk divan beds which have a standard spacing between the fitting points. Please refer to the image below and check that your bed has the correct measurements prior to ordering (measure between the centres of the fixing points). If you have a non-standard bed please get in touch before ordering.

Divan Struts (zip and link)

These are designed for use with zip and link beds where you will sometimes have the beds together and sometimes apart as two separate beds. You can adjust the struts sideways so that they are central to the beds when they are apart, but sit snugly together when the beds are pushed together. The fixing points on the bed are the same as for normal divan beds above. These are also sent with all the fittings needed. If you would like the zip and link struts, please select the divan strut option and leave a note at checkout to say you have zip and link beds.

Free Standing Struts

If you do not have a divan bed with fixing points at the back you have the option to use free standing struts. These attach to the headboard in the same way as the divan struts but they are long enough to stand on the floor. These are held in place between the wall and the bed so will not work for beds that are not sitting against a wall. This is an easy and flexible fitting type for any bed. The struts are placed in the same position as divan struts, so if you do change the bed to a divan you can change to divan struts if desired.

Wall Hanging Brackets

You also have the option of using heavy duty wall hanging brackets which are the lowest cost option. These are supplied with one half attached to the headboard, the other half needs attaching to the wall. I do not supply the wall fixings as they will need to be appropriate for the type of wall you have. This is a very secure method of fixing but does require a degree of DIY skills. Many customers will employ someone to hang the headboard for them. If you do decide to move or change the bed then these will need to be re-hung and the original wall will need repair.

French Cleat

This is a more traditional way of hanging the headboard onto the wall. As with the brackets, these are supplied with one half attached to the headboard and you will need to provide appropriate screws to attach the other half to the wall. These are a little easier to fit than the brackets but still require a degree of skill to hang correctly and are not as flexible as the divan or free standing struts if you decide to move the bed.
